Hey Everybody,
What a great weekend for our "Neighbors for Neighbors" group! What was set up as a "baby" step to kick start our group, turned into a big success. On Saturday morning, we had 26 people come together and work at 5 supermarkets in Bucks County to collect donated food for the homeless in Bucks County. By the end of the morning, our group collected over a ton of food (2200 pounds to be exact)! To get a grasp, 2200 pounds is equivalent to 55 full laundry baskets or 18 full shopping carts of food! On Saturday afternoon, we met with Melissa Mantz, Director of the Bucks County Housing Group and she was ecstatic! She explained that times are tough and the donated food is especially important now. In this year alone, the food larders in Bucks County are serving 45,000 individual visits- up from 30,000 last year! In the Doylestown larder alone, 200 families a week are now continuously using the larder to help make ends meet. So, thanks again for everybody coming out and helping. You made a difference in a lot of lives. I want to again give special thanks to Lori Gudknecht, Karen Walsh, and Mary Chalich for spearheading our first effort- we could not have done it without them. I will write again soon with pictures from the day, to detail our next event, and talk about our name/website, etc. Remember to keep April 26 free for the "March for Babies" walk at North Penn High School. We are already registered as a team under "Chalfont Neighbors for Neighbors". So, if you have the chance, register yourself at the March for Babies website (marchforbabies.org).
Talk to you soon, and thanks again. We are on our way!
Scott
